In the first three seasons, as Dr. Paul Weston continues to struggle with the aftermath of his divorce, he faces new emotional and physical challenges - including hand tremors that he fears might be the onset of Parkinson's Disease, which killed his father. In fourth season, the reimagining of the series is set in 2021 Los Angeles and brings a diverse trio of patients in session with the observant, empathetic Dr. Brooke Taylor to help navigate a variety of modern concerns.
