Plot summary
After stopping warriors sent to keep her away from Piedmon, Xena learns that a giant also threatens the nearby village of Laurel. She and Gabrielle appear to choose Laurel, but Xena intends to save both settlements by drawing the two enemies together.
Hower guides them to Laurel and becomes infatuated with Xena, upsetting his girlfriend Minya. Between planning the defense, Xena and Gabrielle bicker over their everyday habits, borrowed belongings and even a piece of Gabrielle's scroll that Xena has used for an undignified purpose. The adventure unfolds as one exhausting but ordinary day in their partnership.
Xena sends a message promising not to interfere with the warlord Zagreas if he leaves her alone. As expected, his curiosity brings him toward Laurel. She and Gabrielle also alter the road signs to delay the giant Gareth. When the warlord's army crosses the giant's path, most of it is crushed before reaching the village.
Zagreas escapes and attacks Xena, but Minya knocks him unconscious. Hower finally notices the courage of the woman already beside him rather than continuing to idolize Xena.
To stop Gareth, Xena uses an approaching electrical storm. She attaches a metal-bearing kite to his belt and draws him into the open. A lightning strike kills him, ending the remaining threat to the villages.
That night Xena and Gabrielle settle beneath the stars, still teasing one another. Gabrielle unexpectedly lands a practice strike on Xena's nose and wonders whether her friend allowed it. Their work is finished for the day, but the affectionate irritation between them continues.
