Plot summary
Xena frees prisoners opposed to Caesar and meets Krafstar, a priest recruiting support for Boadicea in Britannia. Her hatred of Caesar draws her into the campaign despite the fact that she once betrayed Boadicea. They agree to cooperate against their shared enemy.
Gabrielle and Krafstar are captured during fighting. Caesar orders their crucifixion, but Xena and Boadicea spring an ambush from concealed positions and rescue them. As Caesar gathers his legions, Xena plans to force his larger army to attack uphill.
Ares repeatedly urges Xena to destroy Krafstar's temple, warning that its religion threatens the Olympians. She refuses. Intrigued by Krafstar's apparently peaceful faith, Gabrielle accompanies him there while Xena prepares the military defense.
Inside, the worshippers seize them and appear ready to sacrifice Krafstar. Gabrielle kills Meridian with a dagger to save him. Krafstar immediately reveals that the scene was a deception. His god is Dahak, and the sacrifice required was Gabrielle's innocence, lost through taking a human life.
Xena sees unnatural darkness gathering over the temple and returns to find Gabrielle traumatized beside Meridian's body. Krafstar thanks her for allowing the ritual to happen, then transforms into a monstrous warrior. Flames erupt from the altar and seize Gabrielle above the pit.
Xena fights Krafstar and throws him into the fire. She leaps to save Gabrielle and shields her as the building collapses into the stone formation recognizable as Stonehenge. Gabrielle survives, but the consequences of what happened at Dahak's altar remain unresolved.
