2. Chakram

Following her resurrection, Xena remembers her companions but has lost her understanding of violence and her own warrior identity. When soldiers attack, Gabrielle and Amarice must protect her. Eli suspects that the war god Kal is connected to the change.

Kal and Ares both want the chakram of light, a weapon capable of killing a god. Only a pure soul can retrieve it safely. Xena's altered state makes her useful to them, and they try both force and persuasion to keep control of her. A monk named Calib has already died attempting to take the weapon.

The group searches Calib's library. Gabrielle, no longer committed to refusing all violence, makes clear that her chosen path is to protect Xena. Joxer also asks the unguarded Xena for advice about telling Gabrielle that he loves her. Xena encourages honesty without expecting something in return.

Eli discovers that the chakram of light may restore Xena. She worries about recovering the darkness she has forgotten, but recognizes that her capacity to fight also lets her defend innocent people.

At the temple, Xena retrieves the weapon. She initially cannot bring herself to use it, even when Ares and Kal surround her friends. When Kal threatens Gabrielle, however, she strikes him with it and kills him.

Ares urges her to hand over its power. Instead she places the pieces of her broken dark chakram on the altar, where they are repaired, then joins the light and dark weapons into a new, balanced chakram. Her memories and fighting identity return. The friends defeat Kal's soldiers, and Ares is denied exclusive possession of the god-killing weapon.

Eli remains to study Calib's writings. Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer and Amarice head toward Greece, with Xena grateful that Gabrielle helped her become whole again.
