Plot summary
At Aphrodite's temple, Xena wishes she could take the place of a comatose girl named Daphne. Aphrodite attempts to help but accidentally puts Xena's soul inside the child. Daphne wakes and goes home with her father, while Xena's own body remains unconscious.
The mistake must be reversed within a day or Xena will be trapped permanently. Gabrielle and Aphrodite hide her body from the warlord Tharon's men and seek a substance that can separate the two souls. Gabrielle realizes that the twins Castor and Pollux use a special oil for that purpose and obtains it through a contest at their club.
Inside Daphne, Xena learns why the girl's relationship with her father has become so painful. Her mother drowned after saving her, and neither she nor her father can speak openly about the loss. Each believes that the other blames them.
When Xena uses Daphne's body to stop a runaway horse, Tharon's men suspect the truth. They capture her father to draw her in. Xena and Gabrielle enter the castle to free him while Aphrodite brings Xena's body.
During the rescue, Daphne and her father finally explain their fears and discover that neither holds the other responsible for the death. Their estrangement begins to heal.
Tharon challenges Xena before they can escape. Still fighting through the child's body, she defeats him, and he falls from the ramparts. The oil then restores Xena to her own body. Daphne remains alive and reunited with a father who can at last reassure her that she is loved.
